Job interviews tend to be extremely stressful. The only remedy to deal with them is to get prepared as otherwise even the most confident person can become a bundle of nerves. From my own experience as interviewer I can tell you that it gets really annoying if people do not take some time to prepare their answers to some classy job interview questions. All of them intend to know you better and there are no bad answers but trust me – your answers make a difference. Let me present to you 5 classy questions that you may expect along with some tips on how to get your dream job.
1. Why should I hire you?
This is a must-have one on every job interview so be well prepared to hear that question. Do your homework and present you as future greatest asset to the company. Prepare a list of your skills and experience you can offer. Recall your achievements from previous jobs and indicate the possible added value areas you can develop. Stress your credibility and tendency to exceed the expectations. This question is very broad to make sure you make most of it by leaving the impression that it is you who they are looking for.
2. What is your greatest weakness?
Do not answer it with worn out “I’m perfectionist” quote. They want to hear about your strength. You can tell a story about how you have overcome some weaknesses and turned it into opportunity. You can outline a plan about your development in a specific area. Show them you are a doer and focus on the proactive approach! I like when people can show a little of witty side but do not exaggerate with making jokes – remember that this is a stressful situation for both sides.
3. Where do you see yourself in next 5 years?
You are not a good investment for a company, if you want to leave within next two years. They want to hear about your nearest future in that particular company. This is a perfect opportunity to ask your interviewer a few questions on possible career path in that organization and demonstrate your interest. Ask about the structure and possible promotions.
4. Why do you want to leave your current job?
We are living in a small world so keep away from harsh judgment of your former employers. You need to be prepared to explain the reasons why you have decided to quit your job. Make sure you will neutrally react to that question – do not show anger or frustration, which seems highly unprofessional. Your interviewer has already listened to many stories why people decided to change their job. It is your call to do it and no one will blame you.
5. Do you have any questions?
If you think, that while hearing that question, the job interview is finally over, you are mistaken. This final question gives you space to show yourself from different angle. Be prepared with a list of questions with which you can show your interest in this job and even impress your employee. Consider asking following ones: What might I expect in a typical day?, How has this position evolved?, What are the challenges of this position?
